Scholarships & Grants

We believe every student who deserves to go on an AFS exchange should have the opportunity to do so.

There are a number of ways that AFS can help you to finance your particpation in an AFS intercultural programme. These include:

  • Scholarships
AFS offers a range of scholarships with various criteria.
  • Grants
Grants are allocated on the basis of financial need.
  • Students going on a high school exchange programme and who turn 18 at any stage during their exchange are eligbile to apply for a student allowance from studylink. Download the application form here

Over $15,000 raised!

Raising nearly $15,000 in a small town is no mean feat, but Sam Henderson and Kyle Darwin (below), both from Whitianga in the Coromandel, worked hard to fundraise for their AFS exchanges to Peru. They had a stall at a local festival, put on a Peruvian night at a cafe, organised raffles and funding from local trusts and organisations and did odd jobs around town.

”Fundraising has been hard work but we had fun along the way, and learned how generous and supportive people are. Hopefully we might be able to return the favour somewhere, sometime,” said the students.
